Americans tend to forget the Supreme Court exists, except in those rare instances when the nine justices step out of the shadows and remind us that they have absolute, unfettered control over the nation whenever they want to. They did so this year when they upheld ObamaCare (for the second time) and again when they declared that gay marriage is a legal right in all fifty states. If the republicans had won the White House in 2008 and 2012, both of those rulings would have gone the other way, because the republican President would have put different people on the Supreme Court. But again, if those rulings aren’t enough to motivate you, consider that four of the nine justices on the Supreme Court are about eighty years old – and the next President will probably end up replacing all of them.
