segregation didn’t even end in 1954. it took more than a decade of legal battles and federal enforcement just for it to start to take hold. it wasn’t until the 60s/early 70s that desegregation actually went into effect in many places in the south.
Add in the fact that school districts aren’t actively desegregated anymore, because it’s a “post-racial” nation. Unofficial social segregation has reinstated an education gap in many districts across the nation.
